A superb trekking itinerary that traverses one of the more beautiful parts of the Eastern Ecuadorian Cordillera.
You will admire the most beautiful landscapes of the Andean "páramo".
Long walks at an average altitude of 3900m in the Cotopaxi National Park and with a little luck, you will have the possibility to observe the famous Andean Condor.
Magnificent views on the Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano of the world, the Pasochoa, the Antisana, the 4th highest Ecuadorian summit, the Sincholahua and the Rumiñahui.

Itinerary
D1: Quito > trek Pasochoa summit (4255 m / 13,960 ft). Walking Time: 6 to 7 h
Meeting with your guide and driver and short transfer by private vehicle (50 min.) from Quito to the start of the trail (3160 m / 10,367 ft) climbing up the fragmented crater of Pasochoa. Depart for an altitude hike on the North and the East sides of the volcano that takes you up to the central summit as high as 4255 m (13,960 ft). Box lunch, down back to the vehicle and we drive this time southward, following the famous « Volcanoes Valley », to reach the high plateau of the Cotopaxi National Park. Camp at about 3600 m (11,811 ft) at the foot of the splendid snow-covered cone of the Cotopaxi volcano. Dinner and night in tents. LD.
D2: Trek Cotopaxi National Park (3600m / 11,811 ft). W.T: 4/5h
Breakfast and pursuit of the trek in the Cotopaxi National Park. Hike on the high plateau at the foot of the volcano. Walk through grandiose landscapes of Andean “Páramo” with very beautiful views on all the surrounding peaks that reach 4800 and 4900 m (16,080 ft), such as the Sinchologua and the Rumiñahui. Visit to pre-Inca ruins. 4 to 5 hours walk. Back to our base camp at 3600 m (11,800 ft). BLD.
D3: Summit of Rumiñahui volcano (4722 m / 15,492 ft). W.T: 6/7h
Early morning departure to climb to the top of the Rumiñahui volcano (4722 m / 15,492 ft). Descent and back to our base camp at 3600 m (11,800 ft). 6 to 7 hours walk. BLD.
D4: Cotopaxi Refuge and Glacier (5000 m / 16,405 ft). W.T : 3/4h
After breakfast, departure for the Cotopaxi refuge. Short transfer by vehicle on a dusty road that ends 200 m below the Cotopaxi refuge (4600 m / 15,092 ft). From there, there are about 45 minutes walk on a sandy path to reach the refuge (4800 m / 15,748 ft). Excursion to the Cotopaxi glacier at about 5000 m (16,405 ft), back to the refuge and lunch. After lunch back down to the camp by a beautiful path on the flanks of the volcano. BLD.
D5: Trek Limpiopungo lagoon - Boliche ecological reserve > Quito. W.T : 7/8h
Very beautiful hike crossing all the Rumiñahui massif and going through a great variety of ecosystems, starting from the Limpiopungo lagoon on the Cotopaxi plateau, desert area with lichens, to the high Andean "parámo" with is typical vegetation, flowers and hummingbirds, crossing Andean forest, traverse a spot with the rare polylepis tree, to end on the other side of the eastern cordillera in the old pine forest of "El Boliche" ecological reserve. This is a 7 to 8 hours quite demanding hike. Meeting with the vehicle and back to the capital. BL.
